Inter-dist highway robbers’ gang busted, two arrested
The Jalandhar (Rural) police have arrested two members of a robbers gang and recovered stolen items, including mobile phones and cash, from their possession. The accused allegedly committed thefts to fund their drug addiction.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said acting on specific inputs, a special team from the Phillaur police station led by SHO Sanjeev Kapoor under the supervision of DSP Sarwan Singh Bal, arrested Rahul, a resident of Uchi Ghati, Phillaur, and Lovepreet Singh, a resident of Bulle village in Ferozepur district. During search, the police recovered two stolen mobile phones, an iron file used in crimes and Rs 900 in cash from their possession, the SSP said.
“Both the accused are drug addicts and have been involved in multiple robbery cases in the past. They admitted to have committed thefts and robberies to pay for drugs,” the SSP said.
A case was registered against the accused at the Phillaur police station. The accused would be produced in a court and their police remand sought for further investigation. “A probe is on to find out if they are involved in other criminal cases reported from the region,” the SSP added.
