International wrestling competition at Gakhal village on February 18-19
Sports promoters and NRIs, the Gakhal family will organise an international-level wrestling competition in the memory of their father Naseeb Singh Gakhal at the stadium in their native village Gakhal.
The event will be held for two days, on February 18-19, and wrestlers from the country and abroad will participate in it.
Giving this information at a press conference, Padma Shri awardee Kartar Singh and sports promoter and Chairman, Gakhal Group, Amolak Singh said that these wrestling competitions will be organised with the support and under supervision of Punjab Wrestling Organisation.
He further said that renowned wrestlers will participate in these competitions. The competition in the category below 80 kg will be held on the first day and the competition in the weight category above 80 kg will be held on the second day. A cash prize of Rs 5 lakh will be given for the first place, Rs 3 lakh for the second place and Rs 2 lakh for the third place.
During the tournament, the wrestlers will be served with 3 quintals of almonds by the Tut brothers, Ranjit Singh and Surjit Singh.
It is to be remembered that the Gakhal Group is giving away cash prizes to the medal winning players in the Olympics and sports kits to players from time to time. Besides, the first cash prize of Rs 5 lakh 50 thousand is also given to the winning team of Surjit Hockey Tournament by this group. The family has been associated with sports for many generations. Their father Naseeb Singh Gakhal also loved wrestling and to preserve his memory, the international wrestling tournament is being organised by the family.
