International Yoga Day promotes health, harmony

Residents actively joined yoga sessions in Goraya and Kapurthala to promote physical and mental well-being.

International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at various locations across Goraya and Kapurthala, with residents actively participating in yoga sessions aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.

In Goraya, the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University Ashram organized a special yoga session under the guidance of Sister BK Seema and Sister BK Rupam. Renowned yoga trainer Ritu Sharma led the session, demonstrating various asanas and explaining their health benefits. A large number of local residents joined the event, underscoring the growing awareness of holistic wellness in the region.

Ward No. 6 Councillor Prof. Rishu, Ward No. 8 Councillor Manoj Gogna, and social worker Munish Bawa also participated in the session, encouraging the community to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. Addressing the gathering, Sister B.K. Seema emphasised the vital role of yoga in maintaining both physical and mental health and extended thanks to the dignitaries and yoga instructor Ritu Sharma for their support.

Yoga trainer Ritu Sharma highlighted the importance of regular practice and self-care to ensure long-term wellness. Among those present at the Goraya event were Vivek Gupta, Ramesh Kumar, Gyan Singh, Vishwanath Makkar, Dev Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Mukesh Gulati, Manjeet Singh, Pandit Rajinder Raju, Madhu Gupta, Amarjeet Kaur, Urmila, Anju, Rita Kanda, and Sonia Pahwa, along with many enthusiastic local residents.

Meanwhile, in Kapurthala, members of the Health and Happiness Society and officers of Punjab National Bank observed the day at Virsa Vihar Kendra, where yoga expert Col Sewa Singh conducted a session demonstrating various asanas aimed at promoting fitness and health. Notably, the Health and Happiness Society has been providing free yoga training to the public for over 17 years.

Punjab National Bank Deputy General Manager Harinderpal Singh Chawla honored Col Sewa Singh with a sapling in recognition of his voluntary service to the community.

Reports of celebrations also came in from across the city. At Dharam Sabha, a district-level event was organized where Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal and Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Toora joined residents in performing yoga. International Yoga Day was also observed at Hindu Kanya College with active participation from staff and students.

The widespread observance of International Yoga Day in both Goraya and Kapurthala reflected the growing commitment to health, discipline, and community spirit through the practice of yoga.
