Jalandhar: World Yoga Day was celebrated by the students of St Soldier Group of Institutions at the College of Education to inform the students about the importance of yoga. Dr Vinod Arora from OP Memorial College of Education, was the chief guest. He was welcomed by the Principal Dr Alka Gupta. Students performed different types of yoga like Parayam, Yoga Asana, Sukhasana, Vakrasana, Meditation, chanting Om etc. Yoga is said to be the best method to keep the body stable, to control one’s thoughts and to fill positive energy in the body. Principal Dr Gupta felicitated Dr Vinod Arora and thanked him. Congratulating everyone on the World Yoga Day, Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra encouraged the students and staff members to adopt yoga in their lives by telling them the benefits of yoga.
Seminar on Sustainable Biodiversity
A one day National e-seminar on “Sustainable Use of Biodiversity Entrepreneurship Opportunities” was organised by the Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen welcomed the guests and dignitaries and said HMV and Punjab Biodiversity Board are committed to conservation of Biodiversity and spreading awareness for the same. The chief guest of the seminar was Dr Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director, Punjab State Council for Science & Technology and Member Secretary, Punjab Biodiversity Board. She emphasised the importance of biodiversity management and shared that Punjab is among few states wherein, Biodiversity Management Committees have been constituted. Dr Gurharminder Singh, Principal Scientific Officer, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology explained about the sustainable use of Biodiversity and Biodiversity Act. Dr Anjana Bhatia, Head of the Department of Botany talked on the use of various plants. Participants from places like Bihar, Jammu, Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Sikkim etc. participated in the seminar. Dr Nitika, Ramandeep Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and Dr Shuchi were present on the occasion along with the students of Botany Department. International Biodiversity Day-2022 was also organised on this occasion at HMV. Students of HMV Collegiate Senior Secondary School participated in Selfie with Nature competition, Kumud, Gurjot and Mehak were declared winners. Simarjit Kaur, Bhumi and Manmeet were given first, second and third prizes respectively, in the paragraph writing competition. Kiranjot, Shafri Neerja were awarded in photography competition. Komal, Bhumika and Diya were awarded in Promote Eco Park Competition. Alina got Best poster award, Neha, Manreet, Simranjit, Gurleen, Jhanvi and Simran emerged victorious in the quiz. Dr Anjana Bhatia thanked Principal Dr Ajay Sareen and School Coordinator Meenakshi Syal for their continued support.
Martial Arts Championship concludes
The 11th National Vovinam Martial Arts Championship got concluded in the premises of CT Group of Institutions, South Campus, Shahpur. This mega championship was being organised by Vovinam Association of India. In the closing ceremony today, a demonstration was held by the senior players that was witnessed by guests of honour namely Parminder Kaur Channi, Co-Chairperson CT Group, Harpreet Singh, Vice Chairman along with Vietnamese Master Nguyen Tan Nghia. More than 450 players and officials from 20 states namely Maharashtra, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Delhi, Pondicherry, Meghalaya and Andhra Pradesh participated and competed with each other in this four day championship. The trophy of overall champion was lifted by team from Maharashtra whereas team Uttar Pradesh lifted the first runners up trophy and team from Tamil Nadu bagged second runners up. The event was organised under the supervision of Dr Vishnu Sahai, president of Vovinam Association of India, Pratyush Pandey, Secretary of Vovinam Association of India, Master Shankar Mahabale, Working Secretary of Vovinam Association of India and Sifu Tarun Kumar Narzary, Secretary Punjab Vovinam. An annual general body meeting was also organised during national championship in which all member states were present with their representatives and welcomed association’s New Secretary General Pratyush Ratna Pandey.
World Refugee Day
The World Refugee Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Eklavya School, Jalandhar. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. Online speech was given by educator Shikha and she explained that each year, World Refugee Day is marked by a variety of events in many countries around the globe in support of refugees. These activities are led by refugees themselves, government officials, host communities, companies, celebrities, school children and the general public, among others. The Chairman, JK Gupta, Director, Seema Handa said these kind of days should be observed among youngsters in order to make them fully aware. The students of Primary School did poster making activities. A patroitic song was sung by Aradhya, student of Class IV. A fancy dress competition was also organised for the students of UKG. Kartik, Kian, Japnoor, Naira, Mannat recited the poems on the given theme. The Principal, Komal Arora and Administrator, Dimpal Malhotra appreciated the efforts of the students.
Huawei Telecom certifies students
Huawei Telecommunication (India) Co Pvt Ltd certified 185 students of DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology under the Huawei Certified ICT Academy (HCIA) in Cloud Computing. It also certified students of the institute in Datacom, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. DAVIET, Jalandhar had signed MoU with Huawei Telecommunication (India) Co Pvt Ltd in April 2019. The students took the exam free of cost, which otherwise osts Rs 18,000. Dr Manoj Kumar, principal DAVIET, stated that it is an excellent achievement by the students. The certification will help the students learn new technologies and testify to their expertise in academic subjects. He also shared that the institution will start a new specialised stream of B Tech (CSE) in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning apart from core BTech (CSE) this year 2022-23. While motivating the students to give their best, Dr Manoj referred to the achievement of Nimran Atwal, of B.Tech (CSE), who has been selected by US-based multinational giant ‘Syndigo’ on a pay package of 54.50 LPA.
Science exhibition organised
Department of Applied Science of Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus recently organised a science exhibition. Students displayed many self-designed working scientific models and projects. Students and faculty from various departments attended the exhibition. Students had made still models, working models, colorful charts with different hues and posters, among others. They gave a detailed explanation of their project to the guests. Projects based on harmonography, energy conservation, remote control lock and sewage treatment plant were the centre of attraction. Exhibits on human anatomy and advancements in technology were presented with the help of augmented reality. Director Academic affairs, S Sukhbir Singh Chatha and Dy Director, AA, KCL group Dr RS Deol congratulated the coordinators of the exhibition and encouraged the department for organising such events for students in times to come so that students can be imparted more of practical knowledge along with theoretical.
