International Yoga Day celebrated with enthusiasm across Jalandhar

International Yoga Day was on Saturday celebrated with enthusiasm across the city with people from all walks of life coming together to perform yoga at various locations.

Major spots like Devi Talab Mandir, Doaba College (where the college in association with The Art of Living, The Hawk Riders and National Eye Care organised a special yoga event) and Company Bagh Chowk witnessed large gatherings. Besides, schools, colleges, dance academies, yoga centres and public parks also became active centres of yoga practice throughout the day.

The city’s main district-level event was organized at the premises of ESI Hospital, where hundreds of participants performed yoga in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Amaninder Kaur. Addressing the gathering, the ADC described yoga as a powerful catalyst for physical fitness and mental well-being.

She said, “Yoga is not just a form of exercise, it is a way of life that can bring about physical, mental and emotional balance. In today’s fast-paced and stressful world, yoga has become essential to prevent lifestyle-related diseases and maintain good health.”

The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, was widely promoted at the event. The ADC stressed the importance of adopting yoga as a daily habit and urged people to dedicate at least an hour each day for yoga. She highlighted the efforts of the Punjab Government in promoting yoga through the ‘CM Di Yogshala’ initiative, under which over 155 free yoga classes are conducted every day in the district.

“More than 5,000 people are participating in these free classes daily, which are being conducted under the guidance of trained yoga instructors. This initiative is transforming lives and making yoga accessible to people across the district,” she added.

The event at ESI Hospital also saw participation from health officials, yoga instructors and local residents. District Ayurvedic Officer Dr Veenu Khanna welcomed the dignitaries and appreciated the overwhelming response from the public.

Expert yoga instructors from the Ayurvedic Department conducted sessions and guided participants on the correct techniques of various yoga asanas, explaining their physical and mental health benefits.

Besides, the yoga day celebrations were held at Jalandhar Cantt, Adarsh Nagar Park, Seth Hukam Chand Colony and educational institutions across the city.

Students, teachers, fitness enthusiasts and residents gathered at their local centres to perform yoga and spread the message of healthy living. Many dance and yoga academies organised special morning sessions to mark the occasion.

At Devi Talab Mandir, Doaba College and Company Bagh Chowk, large groups of yoga practitioners performed asanas together, creating a vibrant and energising atmosphere. Parks across the city also attracted families and fitness groups who came out in large numbers to celebrate the day.

“The widespread celebrations reflected the growing awareness and enthusiasm as the city came together to embrace this ancient practice for a healthier and more balanced life,” said Indu, who participated in the yoga session at Doaba College.

The yoga day was celebrated by the Air Force Station, Adampur, at Jang-e-Azadi Memorial in Kartarpur. Air warriors and their family members participated in the yoga event. Air warriors trained as yoga instructors with their expertise, conducted the mass yoga activities by following the common yoga protocol. The event involved conduct of various yogic kriyas, meditation exercises Sankalpa, prayer and demonstration.

The day was organised at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala. Officials and employees of Rail Coach Factory participated enthusiastically in this programme which was held in Community Hall of RCF. The programme started by lighting of the lamps by SS Mishra, General Manager, RCF. Ravi Kumar, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, other senior officers and Madumita Mishra, president, RCF Women Welfare Organisation, and other members were also present on the occasion.
