BJP Punjab president Sunil Jakhar, executive president Ashwani Sharma and Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu on Friday flagged off 60 trucks of relief material to all flood-affected areas in state.
The relief material includes rations, water bottles, clothes, blankets, tarpaulins, utensils, mosquito nets, folding beds and other essential items. Jakhar said that the step demonstrates the party’s sensitivity and support for the people of Punjab. The party’s objective is to provide all possible help to those affected by the floods and stand by them in this difficult time. Jakhar said that the BJP stands like a rock with every section of society in Punjab.
Bittu said that the BJP’s effort would bring relief to those affected by the floods and help them normalise their lives. He added that 10 rakes full of ration, toiletries, clothing, utensils and other items were set to reach Punjab soon from other states including Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi for helping the Punjabi brethren. He said that the Haryana government would soon be sending in teams of veterinary experts from Karnal and other districts to hold camps for dairy animals suffering from infection due to floods.
BJP executive president Ashwani Sharma said that the party’s first duty is to strengthen Punjab and Punjabiyat so that the people of the state can lead a normal life in the future. Prominent among those present on the occasion included National Executive member and former Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia, Jalandhar’s former Mayor and state general secretary Rakesh Rathore, former parliamentary secretary and state vice-president Krishan Dev Bhandari, former MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, former MLA Sheetal Angural, ex-MLAs Sarbjit Singh Makkar and Jagbir Brar.
