Jalandhar DIG reviews security readiness for local body elections

Ahead of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Elections scheduled for 14 December 2025, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla convened a high-level coordination meeting with all district police chiefs and supervisory officers of district Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur etc to review security preparedness across the region.

The meeting focused on arrangements at 2,799 polling locations comprising 3,467 polling booths, where 8,394 police personnel have been deployed for election duty. These deployments will be reinforced by 149 patrolling parties, 41 inter-district nakas, and 11 inter-state nakas to ensure robust law-and-order management throughout the polling process.

During the review, the DIG emphasised the need for strict neutrality of the police force and directed officers to maintain enhanced vigilance, particularly at sensitive and hypersensitive booths. Instructions were issued to ensure uninterrupted patrolling, strengthen communication between field formations, and respond promptly to any emerging law-and-order situation. Officers were further directed to implement fool proof naka deployment and monitor polling stations in real time, while coordinating closely with civil and election authorities to uphold a peaceful and orderly voting environment.

In addition to election-specific directives, the DIG Singla also issued a series of broader instructions aimed at strengthening overall policing and preventive measures. These included expediting the disposal of pending investigations, reinforcing crime prevention strategies, and conducting regular area domination and night domination exercises.

The DIG instructed officers to operate shifting nakas effectively, maintain strict checking of bailed-out individuals, and provide refresher training under the NDPS Act. Quick Response Team vehicles are to be kept in immediate readiness, and police personnel must undergo regular firing practice to ensure operational preparedness.
