Hailing from Basti Guzan locality in the city, her father works in a hand tool factory. The circumstances in the family were such that she could afford neither expensive coaching nor reference books required for her JEE preparation. But things kept on coming to her favour and she got every possible help to achieve her goal.

“My schoolteachers provided me books. They introduced me to a JEE coaching centre, which had NGO services and offered me free coaching for two years. I cracked the entrance with a good rank and got admission in B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology,” she recalled her journey.

She further narrated, “For my eight semester, I had to pay just Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per semester as my family income was less than Rs 1 lakh per annum. My family could afford this fee. The institute was a perfect training ground and provided me the right kind of environment for getting placed with the top MNC, making it a dream come true for me. My seniors guided me on taking various online tutorials for improving skills in coding.”

She gleamed as she said, “I cannot express in words as to how excited my family is at my placement. In my achievement, they can see the change of fortunes for the family. Ever since my mother read my offer letter, she says that she cannot believe that it can happen.”

Asked what she had planned for her family from the income that she would now be drawing, an emotional Farheen said: “I have just two things in my mind. I have to improve the condition of our house and help my father create a permanent source of income so that he no longer has to toil in the factory.”

Farheen was invited to the school today for felicitation by principal Gurinderjeet Kaur and her mathematics teacher Kanchan Chadha. Along with her, came her school batchmate Taniya who also studied from NIT, has just passed out with B.Tech in Civil Engineering and has got placed with Samsung Engineering at Noida on a pay package of Rs 5.6 lakh per annum.

Their another batchmate Rushali, who studied B.Tech in Computer Science with specialisation in Cyber Security from GNA University, has got placed at Xenonstack Mohali as Cyber Security Analyst on an annual package of Rs 4.5 lakh per annum.
