Jalandhar: A volleyball league-2024 besides fun and fitness events were organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College, by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, in which the college staff participated. Three teams — LKC Spartans, LKC Warriors and LKC Fighters — were formed in the league tournament and Fearless Fairies, Luna Lionesses, Golden Goddesses and Thunder Queens were formed for fun and fitness events which included members of both teaching and non-teaching faculty. Dr SS Bains, Dean Sports, introduced the players to Principal Dr Jaspal Singh, who advised them to play with sportsman’s spirit. Captain of LKC Spartans was Prof Ajay Kumar. Dr Dinkar Sharma was the captain of LKC Warriors while Captain of LKC Fighters was Dr Palwinder Singh. Principal Dr Jaspal Singh himself played league matches with skill and efficiency.
National Science Day celebrated
DAV University held two-day festivities to mark National Science Day. The theme of the event was ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. The event was supported by the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCTSC), and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The event included inter-departmental competitions attracting the participation of around 500 students. Engaging competitions, including rangoli, poster-presentation, start-up idea exploration, best-out-of-waste exhibition, debate competition and model-making, showcased the multifaceted talents of the student community. The participation of Aatman Jamwal, a 10-year-old prodigy, captivated the audience during the poster-presentation session.
Canadian cricketer visits school
Seth Hukam Chand Public Senior Secondary School alumnus Ravinder Pal Singh, a cricketer with the Canadian international team, visited the school. Principal Priyanka Sharma extended a warm welcome to him. Ravinder Pal Singh shared anecdotes, life lessons and the magic of chasing dreams. His words resonated with every aspiring athlete in the audience. The event concluded with a token of love presented by the Principal.
Apeejay Spark 2024 held
An inter-college event ‘Apeejay Spark 2024’ was organised at Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus. Around 1,000 students from 25 colleges across Punjab exhibited their communication, managerial and technical skills in fine arts, literary and IT competitions organised during the event. Students vied for top positions in as many as 21 different competitions which included Ad Mad show, debate, business plan, net-savvy, lan gaming, logic testing, moving it around the slides, on-the-spot painting competition, debugging, street play competition, folk dance, poster-making and many more. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Director Dr Rajesh Bagga, Deans and other dignitaries. Events like Nukkad Natak depicted sensitive social, economic and political issues like corruption, gender bias and drug addiction which were highly appreciated by the judges. Daljeet Matharu, coordinator of Apeejay Spark 2024, proposed a vote of thanks.
Sukhmani Sahib Path
MLU DAV College, Phagwara, organised ‘Sukhmani Sahib Path’ in the college. Chairman Vikas Uppal, Pooja Uppal, Om Uppal , Kavita Uppal, Satpal Singh Multani, Chairman, Richi Travels, Jalandhar, members of the local managing committee, Phagwara, college principal Dr Kiranjeet Randhawa, staff and students paid obeisance. The Principal informed the students about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev. The principal told the students that there should be no caste, creed or religious differences. Guru Nanak started the concept of langar that promoted the idea of brotherhood, sitting together and eating without any distinction and differences. The ‘path’ was organised in the college premises with the pious intention of seeking holy blessings for the uplift of the institution and good results of the students.
Capacity-building programme
Shiv Jyoti Public School got the privilege to organise a one-day capacity-building programme by CBSE. The event started with floral tributes being paid at the idol of Swami Vivekananda at Durga Dwar and Jyoti Prajwalan followed by recitation of Saraswati Vandana and prayer by teachers’ choir group. Principal Parveen Saili said that the objective of the programme was increase in knowledge of a general subject area. A series of engaging activities was conducted throughout the day to impart practical knowledge on art-integrated activities in classroom teaching. Teachers were given guidance on how to foster critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills among students. Megha Kumar delivered a vote of thanks.
Youth Awareness Programme
Myriad awareness activities were organised at Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala, in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra. The prime aim of these activities was to make the youth aware about the initiatives taken by the government, to educate them about the social issues and spread health awareness among them. Gurpreet Singh Gill, Superintendent of Police, Kapurthala, was the chief guest. Seema Rani, Head, Department of History, delivered a motivational talk on ‘Women empowerment’. Students of the host college presented an impactful mock parliament and debated on the factors responsible for drug addiction in Punjab. Lal Singh, an expert on millets, enlightened the audience about the health benefits and the optimum consumption of millets. A special quiz on General Elections was also conducted by Varinder Kaur from the Department of Political Science. College Principal Dr Archna expressed gratitude to the organisers from Nehru Yuva Kendra for arranging diverse awareness activities for the students. Sanjeev Bhalla, school academic in-charge, staff and students were present during the event.
