Prabhjot Singh (22), a student of Diploma in Agriculture, made his parents proud after he won gold medals in powerlifting at international level. Student of PAU Regional Research Station (RRS), Ballowal Saunkhri, he performed at the World Powerlifting Championship held in Kyrgyzstan.

He won two gold medals, one in full event and one in deadlift event. He had also participated in several national-level tournaments that were held in Punjab, Gujarat, New Delhi and Chhattisgarh. He has, so far, won five gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal in national and international tournaments.

  • He said his father, an electrician, supported him throughout his journey. “My father is happy that at least I have not fallen prey to drugs,” he said.

Prabhjot said no one from his family was into sports. “I used to go to the gym and would lift weight. It was then that I realised what was the use of lifting weights if I don’t get any award, medal or reward. I started taking it seriously and got training for it,” he shared.

He said his father, an electrician, supported him throughout his journey. “My father is happy that at least I have not fallen prey to drugs, which is common among today’s youths. He has given me full freedom. Sports have played a great role in my life,” the powerlifter said.

On his achivements, Dr Manmohanjit Singh, Director, RRS, Ballowal Saunkhri, congratulated him and wished him luck for his future tournaments. He said Prabhjot was equally good in academics too and that he was proud of his student.
