Jalandhar pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on 77th death anniversary

Various political leaders, social organisations and educational institutes remembered father of nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary on Thursday.

Manoranjan Kalia, former minister, Punjab, and member, national executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 77th death anniversary. Ashwani Bhandari, district vice-president, BJP, party leaders Rajiv Walia and Rajat Mohindru and Dhiraj Kumar and Yogi Sharma also paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi. A programme was organised by the Gandhian Studies Centre and History Department to mark the occasion. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi told students to take inspiration from the life and philosophy of Gandhiji and told them to follow the principles of truth, non-violence, peace, cleanliness, selfless service, swadeshi, women education and empowerment, economic self-reliance, unity and integrity. The music department also paid tributes to the father of nation by singing his favourite hymns during the programme. The principal lauded the efforts made by Dr Monika Sharma, director, Gandhian Studies Centre, and Dr Gurjot, head, department of history, for the event.
