The police from Division Number-6 rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough investigation. Both accused were taken into custody.

Bhardwaj said they suddenly attacked him and hit a sharp-edged weapon on his head multiple times.

The weapon used in the attack, a ‘datar’, was recovered by the police from the crime scene. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, adding to the tension in the locality, which hosts numerous PG accommodations.

Following the assault, there is a palpable sense of fear among residents, especially those who run PGs. The brutal nature of the attack has raised concerns about the safety of landlords and the potential risks posed by tenants.

After being initially treated at a private facility, Bhardwaj underwent a medico-legal case (MLC) examination at the Jalandhar Civil Hospital. The MLC report has been handed over to the police and the statement of the victim has been recorded.

SHO Division Number 6, Sahil Chaudhary, said the two youngsters, who visited the victim’s residence on a motorcycle, had initially claimed that they were there to enquire about a PG accommodation. However, their true intention was to take revenge.

“The victim’s residence was occupied by a girl, who had a conflict with the landlord. The attackers, identified as Gagandeep and Harpreet Singh, were acquaintances of this girl. They attacked the landlord to pacify the girl”, he said.

SHO Chaudhary further said the situation was promptly addressed as neighbours timely alerted the police, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects from the spot.

Following their arrest, an FIR was registered against Gagandeep and Harpreet Singh under the relevant sections of the BNS. They were subsequently presented in court and remanded to judicial custody.
