Jalandhar Police bust multiple crime networks, 6 held in two operations
In a series of coordinated operations, the Jalandhar rural police have arrested several drug smugglers and busted a highway robbery gang in Phillaur area.
The police arrested two drug smugglers, including a woman, and seized 250 narcotic pills (Alprazolam IP-0.5), 5 kg of crushed poppy husk, Rs 35,000 in drug proceeds, and a motorcycle used for transportation of contraband.
The accused were identified as Amarjit Singh alias Pappu, a resident of Ladha village, and Jaswinder Kaur alias Binder, a resident of Bharsinghapura village, Phillaur.
The police also apprehended four members of a gang involved in highway robberies.
The accused were identified as Jagjit Singh alias Grewal alias Lovely, a resident of Gurnam Nagar, Ludhiana; Sukhpal Singh alias Sukha, a resident of Surjewal, Fazilka; Sunny, a resident of Khohi Mahulla Panjdhera, Phillaur; and Raman Kumar, a resident of Taihing, Phillaur.
According to officials, the gang members were active in Phillaur city and along the main highway and used sharp weapons to commit robberies. Seven robbery cases have been traced to the gang so far and stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle used in the crimes were recovered from their possession, they added.
All the accused have been remanded in police custody for further investigation.
