Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma led a major operation against public drinking and traffic violations on Dussehra night, resulting in 35 arrests at PPR Mall and the Model Town market.

The operation, which ran from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm, saw police officers conducting thorough checks of shops and vehicles to ensure compliance with regulations.

“Violations of the law are completely unwarranted and will not be tolerated,” Sharma said, adding that anyone flouting law will face strict action.

The operation yielded 35 arrests, 14 traffic challans were issued, 3 vehicles impounded and one preventive action was taken under Sections 126/169 of the BNS.

Sharma affirmed that similar operations would be conducted in the future, emphasising that no one, regardless of status, would be allowed to violate the law. “The Commissionerate Police is committed to taking severe action against those who disregard public safety, especially during festive occasions.”
