Jalandhar: On the occasion of World Radio Day, an inter-college RJ Hunt competition was organised at the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Guru Nanak Dev University, Regional Campus, Ladhewali. Thirteen students from various colleges of the city participated in the competition. The competition had three rounds in all. First was the introduction round, in the second round the contestants were given a topic to speak upon and the third was the phone-in round. Rajvir Kaur from IKGPTU, Kapurthala, won the first prize and Kartik from Lyallpur Khalsa College won the second prize. Dr Namarta Joshi, head of the department, said communication is the key to success in journalism and radio is one of the avenues where the students can showcase their communication skills through RJing, podcasting and audio books etc.
Workshop on World Radio Day
The PG Department Mass Communication of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a workshop on World Radio Day. The resource person of the workshop was Paras Chadha, radio jockey in All India Radio. Head of Mass Communication Department Rama Sharma gave his brief introduction. Paras addressed the students and said the world knows you through your voice in radio. He advised the students to know your capabilities and set your goals accordingly. He said in radio pronunciation should be accurate and one should know the culture of their society. He said words once spoken cannot come back. RJ should not be over confident. Students Simran, Shivani and Sahibpreet recited their self-composed poems. Paras shared his personal experiences. Principal Ajay Sareen congratulated the department for this initiative.
Annual athletics meet concludes
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised the annual athletic meet Trailblazer-2K24. At the outset, Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi welcomed Sushil Kumar Rinku, Member of Parliament, and guest of honour Sajjan Singh Cheema, Arjuna awardee and former international basketball player. After the unfurling of KMV sports flag, it was time for march past by volleyball, handball, softball and players of other games, besides NCC squad of the college. The teams were led by players of national and international level as the display of discipline and team spirit was spectacular. Addressing the gathering, Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated all the sportswomen who had made their mark in the field of sports with their diligence and skill. MP Rinku announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh on the occasion for the institution’s development. During the colourful progress of the day, students participated in 100m, 200m, long jump, sack race, needle and thread race, shot put, 400m race. Lovpreet Kaur was selected as the best athlete in the non-players’ category, and Jaspreet Kaur in the players’ category.
Swami Dayanand remembered
On the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand, a havan yagya was organised by the Dayanand Chetna Manch at Mehr Chand Polytechnic College in which heads of various departments along with staff members and students were present. Principal Jagroop Singh was also present as the chief yajman and the sacred hawan was conducted by Prabhu Daya, lecturer in mechanical department. Dr Jagroop Singh in his address created awareness among students about the efforts of the founder of Arya Samaj. He elaborated all details of his pious works. In the end, the yagya was concluded with the prayers for the all-round development of Mehr Chand Polytechnic College.
