Jalandhar (Rural) Police confiscates assets worth Rs 84.52 lakh of 4 drug smugglers
In a major blow to narcotics trade, Jalandhar (Rural) Police seized properties worth Rs 84,52,750 linked to offenders involved in four NDPS cases. The Competent Authority, New Delhi, confirmed the confiscation of these properties over the last four months, following proposals submitted by the police.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the confiscations were executed under Chapter 5A of the NDPS Act, which empowers law enforcement agencies to seize, freeze, and forfeit properties acquired through drug money. The attached properties now stand in the name of Government of India, and that further legal proceedings, including auctions, would be carried out as per established protocols.
Among the confiscated properties, Harish Kumar alias Monu, a resident of Kapurthala, had his Maruti Swift Dzire, valued at Rs 3,50,000, seized in connection with an FIR registered in Shahkot on March 15, 2020. In another case, a plot measuring 9 marlas, valued at Rs 52,00,000, was frozen in connection with Lakhvir Chand, a resident of Hoshiarpur, linked to an FIR registered in Bhogpur on May 26, 2020.
Similarly, Prem Singh, a resident of Mehatpur, had his plot measuring 11 kanal and 1 marla frozen. The property, valued at Rs 8,28,750, was linked to an FIR registered in Mehatpur on July 19, 2013. Further, Sonu Kumar, a resident of Maqsudan, had a residential house measuring 5 marlas, valued at Rs 20,74,000, frozen in connection with FIRs registered in Adampur and Noormahal on September 16, 2005, September 19, 2008 and March 15, 2009.
