Jalandhar youth trapped in Russia-Ukraine war; family appeals for help

Another man from Jalandhar has reportedly been trapped in the Russia-Ukraine war zone after being duped with the promise of a job. The man has been identified as Harminder Singh, a resident of Jalandhar, who claims he was recruited into the Russian army against his will. He went on a tourist visa in June.

In a video that has gone viral, a visibly frightened Harminder Singh is heard appealing to the Indian government for help. He says he went to Russia in search of employment and was promised a job as a construction worker, but instead, he was forcibly recruited in the Russian army and sent to the frontline.

“I request the Indian government to take me out and bring me back to India. There is a threat to my life here,” Harminder says in the video, describing the dire conditions and drone attacks near his location.

Speaking to the media, his brother Gurminder Singh said that Harminder had left home to earn a living for the family but fell victim as he was deceived into joining the Russian army.

A similar case was reported earlier involving Mandeep Kumar from Goraya, who also sent a video message pleading for help after being recruited into the Russian army. His brother, Jagdeep Kumar, has reportedly travelled to Russia twice in an effort to trace him but has been unsuccessful so far.

Families of both men have appealed to the government to intervene and ensure the safe return of their kin.
