Jamhoori Kisan Sabha holds meeting in Jalandhar, demands repeal of electricity bill

A state-level meeting of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, Punjab, was held under the chairmanship of Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala at the union's state office in Garha, Jalandhar.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Ajnala, State President of the Sabha, announced that a grand rally would be held in Chandigarh on November 26, marking the anniversary of the Kisan Mazdoor Andolan. The rally, organised by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, aims to push for the implementation of demands from the farmers' and labourers' protests, which were accepted by both the Central and State governments following the Andolan.

Dr Ajnala also reiterated the demand for the repeal of the controversial Electricity Bill 2025. He warned that any attempt to enforce the bill would prompt the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha to launch a large-scale agitation against it.

Kulwant Singh Sandhu, State General Secretary of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, criticised the proposal to dissolve the senate of Punjab University, Chandigarh, calling it an infringement on the rights of the state by the Centre. He expressed support for the University Bachao Morcha and announced the Sabha's participation in a rally at the university on November 10.

Additionally, Sandhu highlighted the failure of the state government to provide compensation to flood victims. He demanded that both the state and central governments urgently address the losses caused by the recent floods and ensure full compensation to affected families.

He also appreciated the contributions from various farmer organisations, social workers, and religious institutions that have provided seeds, fertilisers, diesel and machinery for wheat sowing.

In a statement to the press, Harnek Singh Gujjarwal, State Press Secretary of the Jamhoori Kisan Sabha, confirmed that the Sabha is conducting unit elections across villages to strengthen its base. He added that a special campaign would soon be launched to increase membership in the coming days.
