In a major political development, Vicky Sood, president of the Mandal BJP, Phagwara, along with several of his close associates, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The announcement was made in the presence of Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, Member of Parliament from Hoshiarpur, and other senior AAP leaders.
The function saw prominent political figures, including Harji Singh Mann, Daljeet Raju, Varun Bangar (village sarpanch), Gurdeep Deepa, Om Prakash Bintu, Bobby Bedi, Darshan Dharmasot, Jaspal Singh and Ravi Kumar, pledge support to the AAP.
The move is being seen as a major blow to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Phagwara region, as Vicky Sood’s departure, along with his influence in the local political arena, could impact BJP’s prospects.
Dr Chabbewal welcomed the new members, emphasising that their inclusion reflects growing public confidence in AAP’s governance model and vision for Punjab. “This is a clear indication that people are aligning with AAP’s commitment to transparency, development and welfare,” he added.
