Justice Manuja of HC meets lawyers, assures to resolve delay in grant of bails

Justice Harkesh Manuja of the Punjab and Haryana High Court visited the court complex in Phagwara on an annual inspection. He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, SDM Jashanpreet Singh, CJM Rajwant Kaur from Kapurthala, Sessions Judge, Kapurthala, Harpal Singh and Additional Civil Judge, Phagwara, Surekha Dadwal. He inspected the judicial work in the courts.

He held a brief meeting with the judges and advocates of Phagwara sessions court and instructed them to keep the work in progress with their efficiency. He visited the newly constructed site for two courts. Members of Bar Association, Phagwara, including advocate Lalit Chopra, Munish Sareen, Vijay Sharma, Anita Kaura and Ravinder Sharma (president, local Bar Association) urged Justic Manuja to arrange the functioning of family court in Phagwara twice a week in place of the present once a week.

Justice Manuja, who is inspecting Judge of Kapurthala sessions court, assured the members of District Bar Association, Kapurthala, that he would put up their demand of inordinate delay in the grant of bails to petty criminals and stay in the cases of civil matters before the committees constituted by High Court. He told the members of Bar that the High Court has specially constituted committees to give directions to lower judiciary in the grant of bails and stays in civil matters to give speedy justice to the litigants.

Senior advocates JJS Arora and Manu Gautam drew the attention of the judge to the problem of bail even for small offences. Advocate Manu Gautam added that no stay is granted in civil matters, rather status quo is granted .

District Bar Association President SS Malhi welcomed the High Court judge in the Bar room. Later, the judge inspected judicial courts at Bholath and Sultanpur Lodhi also.
