Jalandhar, February 10

The Jalandhar Rural police arrested two sharpshooters of the Bambiha gang who were involved in the murder of international kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal Ambiyan.

The suspects - Ravinder Singh, alias Harry Rajpura, a resident of Gopalpur in Patiala, and Harjit Singh, alias Harry Mor, a resident of Mor Kalan village in Bathinda, who were already declared POs, - were arrested after being brought on production warrant from the Bathinda jail on February 7.

Sandeep Nangal was shot dead during a kabaddi tournament at Mallian Khurd village in Jalandhar on March 14, 2022. A case under Sections 307, 302, 148, 149, 120B, 212 and 216 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the NDPS Act was registered on March 14.

Jalandhar SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said: “Both shooters were declared POs by the court of SDJM, Nakodar, on November 14, 2022. They were serving jail in Bathinda in the murder case of gangster Jasvir Deegot.”

The police said during questioning, the duo revealed that the conspiracy to kill Nangal was hatched by various jailed gangsters as well as overseas kabaddi promoters. Jailed gangsters such as Kaushal Chaudhary, Amit Dagar, Fateh Nagri, Jujhar Singh, alias Simranjit Singh, among others and overseas kabaddi promoters such as Snover Dhillon, gangster Lucky Patial, gangster Sukha Duneke, was who killed in Canada, together hatched a plan to kill Sandeep Nangal.

The police said on the instructions of Sukha Duneke, Harjit Singh, alias Harry Mor, got involved in this plan, while Ravinder Singh, alias Harry Rajpura, got involved on the insistence of Fateh Nagri, who was in the Sangrur jail.

The SSP said Amit Dagar, Kaushal Chaudhary and Sukha Duneke sent shooters Punit Sharma, Narinder Lalli, Vikas Mahle and Harinder Fauji to carry out the crime and also arranged the car and weapons for them.

The police said the shooters gathered in Amritsar a day before the murder. Their stay and food arrangements were organised by Jujhar Singh, alias Simranjit Singh.

The police recovered the car used in the crime, 2 pistols, magazine and five live cartridges from both shooters.

The SSP said during investigation, it also came to fore that Punit Sharma earlier had a heated verbal exchange with Harjit Singh, alias Harry Mor. As a result, Harry Mor also shot Punit in his leg during Sandeep Nangal’s murder. Both shooters also previously carried out the double murder of Manpreet Challa and Manpreet Vicky in Bathinda.

The SSP said after the murder of Sandeep Nangal, the duo had also killed Jasvir Deegot on the instructions of Haryana-based gangster Neeraj Pandit. The police said both shooters were also wanted in extortion cases and were in touch with overseas gangster Arsh Dalla. Raids were being conducted to nab absconding shooters Punit Sharma and Narinder Lalli.
