Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV) has been recognised as the Retail Centre of Excellence (CoE) by Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India. The college received this honour for supporting the growth of vocational education with a focus on teaching, learning and sharing of high quality curriculum and programme design for other institutions as a mentor. Principal Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the CoE at KMV will play a significant role in driving innovation and excellence in vocational education in retail and will also provide mentorship to other institutions regarding retail education and operation of retail lab. The principal congratulated Gopi Sharma, Rashmi Sharma and the faculty members of Department of Retail Management and the students for this achievement.

Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya

Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), Amritsar, clinched the prestigious MAKA Trophy for the 25th time, and the sports players at Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya (HMV) played a significant role in it. Their collective efforts have propelled GNDU to the pinnacle of sporting excellence by contributing the maximum points. HMV has consistently demonstrated a deep-seated passion for nurturing athletic talent. Principal Ajay Sareen said HMV’s dedicated coaches and mentors have been instrumental in honing the skills of the athletes, contributing significantly to their performances on the international and national stage.

Doaba College

The kho-kho team (boys) of Doaba College bagged the third position in ‘A’ division in the Inter-College Kho-Kho Tournament in GNDU and brought laurels to the institution. Pardeep Bhandari said the team — comprising Rohit, Sahil, Hemant, Durgesh, Nitish, Akash, Lakhan Singh, Navpreet Kumar, Prince, Rahul, Ritish and Sagar — participated under the guidance of coach Vishal Kumar and Vinod Kumar. The principal, Ominder Johal and Vinod Kumar felicitated the victorious team members in the college.

Apeejay College of Fine Arts

On the second day of NSS camp, Sanspandan, at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, students practiced yoga and learned about the various ways to protect the environment. The students were enlightened about the significance of yoga to achieve a healthy body and mind. Principal Neerja Dhingra said that in the camp, the NSS volunteers would be educated in every aspect of living a healthy life while preserving the environment at the same time. Vinod Kumar, principal, BEd College, Dyalpur, who has been dedicated to yoga for 30 years, interacted with the students and practiced yoga asanas with them. He also taught them pranayama and about its benefits for physical and mental balance and other exercises for a flexible body. Addressing the students on the topic ‘Millets for health and nutrition’, Monika Anand, head, Department of Home Science, said millets are not only good for health but also play an important role in the protection of environment as this crop that can be grown with less water, less fertiliser and less chemicals.

BBK DAV College for Women

Amritsar: BBK DAV College for Women organised a seven-day camp to inculcate the spirit of social service among its volunteers. On the occasion, a two-day international lecture series was held in the presence of Sudarshan Kapoor, chairman, local advisory committee. The resource persons were American scholars and mentors David McCombs, Mark Warden, Deanna Warden and Noelle Carrera. Principal Pushpinder Walia congratulated the NSS unit for organising the camp and underscored the importance of community service within society. Mark Warden engaged the audience with a compelling discourse titled ‘Think different, be different’, wherein he familiarised everyone with diverse methods of developing the capacity to confront challenges. Deanna Warden provided insights into thinking different on a super-small scale. A lecture titled ‘Change the way you think’ was presented by David McCombs, who shared perspectives on future financial security, genuine value of money, and cultural debt. Noelle Carrera, in her session on ‘Overcome negativity through a calm mind’, dwelled upon various strategies to control the mind in order to tackle challenges. Mark Warden also addressed the issue of mental wellbeing, while Deanna gave an enriching lecture on the role of family stories in the alleviation of stress and anxiety.

DAV College

The poster of ‘Singhnaad’, dedicated to National Youth Day, was released by the executive committee of Amritsar branch of Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, at DAV College, Amritsar. Principal Amardeep Gupta and Harmohinder Singh Bedi, chancellor, Central University of Himachal, were present at the event. Centre coordinator Rajni Dogra said that the centre celebrates the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is on January 12, with great pomp and show every year. Swami Vivekananda was a dynamic personality and extraordinary karmayogi, who implemented the concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ in his life and the main motive of celebrating this day is to exhort the youth to take inspiration from his life. Executive members of the centre, Rajesh Raina, Kanchan Bhatia and Abhishek Saini, said that students from various colleges and educational institutions will share the thoughts of Swami Vivekananda and participate in various recitation competitions.

Spring Dale Senior School

The staff and management of Spring Dale Senior School remembered and paid tributes to their mentors, late Shivinder Singh Sandhu, former managing trustee of Spring Dale Educational Society, and Manveen Sandhu, former principal of the school. An ‘akhand path’ was organised for the departed souls and ‘bhog’ was held at the local Central Khalsa Orphanage to observe their 15th death anniversary. Representatives of management and staff from Spring Blossoms School and Spring Dale Senior School were present at the event.
