Kapurthala procures 28,574 MT of cotton

The Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala, Amit Kumar Panchal, has announced steady progress in the district’s ongoing cotton procurement season. Of the season’s target of 820,017 metric tonnes, a total of 28,574 metric tonnes of cotton has been procured so far, with officials anticipating an increase in inflow to mandis in the coming days.

Among government procurement agencies, Markfed has purchased the largest quantity — 13,178 metric tonnes — followed by Pangreen with 8,865 metric tonnes, PANSAP with 4,140 metric tonnes and the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation with 1,505 metric tonnes.

Panchal stated Rs 54.35 crore has been directly credited to farmers’ accounts as payment for the cotton procured to date.

Urging farmers to bring only dry cotton to the mandis, he advised them to adhere strictly to the moisture levels prescribed by the government in order to avoid delays or complications during the sale process. He further requested that cotton be brought to the mandis between 10 am and 6 pm to help maintain appropriate moisture content.
