In a significant appeal aimed at promoting the noble cause of organ donation, former Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday, urging him to institute a formal recognition programme for posthumous organ donors during the Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations.
Khanna cited the initiative by the Madhya Pradesh government, which recently decided to honour deceased organ donors during national events. “Those who donate their organs after death are true heroes — they give life to others even after their own has ended. There can be no greater act of selflessness,” Khanna said.
He said recognising donors would not only pay tribute to their ultimate sacrifice, but also inspire others to follow suit. “Honouring such individuals will send a message to society, encouraging unity, compassion and a stronger sense of community,” he said. — OC
