The case of alleged public thrashing of three persons by the police at Purheeran in Hoshiarpur last night is the talk of the town.

In protest against the beating up by police, the victims’ kin and supporters blocked the the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road in front of the police post and raised slogans against the police and demanded action against the guilty.

Makhan Singh of Mohalla New Fatehgarh said the policemen of Purheera post had taken away his nephew’s motorcycle. He said he had the RC . The police personnel asked him to come to the post with the bike papers and when he and his nephew reached the post, the policemen were already beating up a person.

He said after this, the three police personnel started beating them up brutally. Makhan alleged that the policemen were drunk. As soon as the kin came to know about the incident, supporters and family members of the victim blocked the highway and the blockade was removed only after the SHO pacified them.

DSP, City, Devdutt Sharma said outpost in-charge Sanjeev Kumar and the police personnel had been shifted to Police Lines. He said the matter would be investigated.
