On the occasion of World Environment Day, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam-2.0’ campaign with zeal by planting a mango sapling at the Public Works Department (PWD) rest house in Sultanpur Lodhi.
Emphasising the urgent need for environmental stewardship, DC Panchal called on residents to actively participate in preserving nature, stating, “Safeguarding our environment is a shared responsibility to gift a cleaner, greener planet to future generations.” He inspired citizens to plant a sapling in dedication to their parents and commit to its care, fostering a personal connection to the initiative.
The district administration has set an ambitious target of planting 9.5 lakh saplings across Kapurthala during the upcoming monsoon season to transform the region’s green cover. To support this, the Forest Department is providing free saplings at nurseries in Kapurthala city, Phagwara, Sultanpur Lodhi, and Dhilwan, making it easy for residents to participate.
In a special appeal, DC Panchal encouraged farmers to plant saplings near their tubewells during the paddy season, integrating afforestation with agricultural practices.
The campaign saw active participation from Additional Deputy Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varinderpal Singh Bajwa, who planted saplings at the District Administrative Complex, reinforcing the district’s commitment to sustainability.
