In a widened crackdown on violent crime and illegal arms networks, Kapurthala Police have made major breakthroughs in two separate cases, arresting eight accused in a Shahjahanpur shooting case while also recovering four country-made pistols in a separate operation in district Kapurthala.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora said the swift action in Shahjahanpur followed a shooting incident on November 1, in which Harjinder Singh, was allegedly targeted by two motorcycle-borne attackers with the intent to kill. A case was registered at Sultanpur Lodhi police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act.
Police officials, including SP (Investigation) Prabhjot Singh Virk and DSP (Detective) Parminder Singh Mand, led an intensive technical and ground surveillance effort that resulted in the arrest of Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky within 24 hours. Investigators later arrested Ajay Kumar alias Billa, described by police as a key conspirator and recovered a .30 bore country-made pistol allegedly used in the attack. A motorcycle suspected to have been involved was also seized.
So far, 12 individuals have been named in the case, of whom eight have been arrested, while four remain at large. Police said preliminary findings indicate the plot may have been commanded from abroad by a man identified as Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga Pookiwala.
In a separate action against illegal weapon supply chains, a CIA Staff team led by ASI Jasvir Singh apprehended Amandeep alias Aman of Village Tashpur while patrolling the Talwandi Mahima–Shekhupur link road. Officers said two .32 bore pistols and live cartridges were recovered from him, prompting registration of a case under the Arms Act at Police Station Sadar Kapurthala.
During interrogation, monitored by SP(D) Virk, the accused allegedly revealed that he brought weapons from Madhya Pradesh and supplied them to buyers in Punjab.
His disclosures led police to two more country-made pistols, raising the total recovery to four firearms. SSP Toora said both operations reflect the district’s focused strategy to dismantle networks responsible for gun violence, adding that efforts are underway to trace remaining suspects and the broader supply chain.
“Our objective is to ensure criminals do not feel safe anywhere in Kapurthala district,” he said. Police stated that further arrests and recoveries are expected as investigations continue in both cases.
