Jalandhar, February 21

The Directorate of School Education (Secondary), Punjab, on Wednesday released the 2022-23 list of best government schools based on overall grading. The schools were categorised into middle, high, and senior secondary levels, with cash prizes worth — Rs 5 lakh for middle schools, Rs 7.5 lakh for high schools and Rs 10 lakh for senior secondary schools — being awarded to top performers of each district.

In Jalandhar, Government Senior Secondary School for Girls, Ladowali Road, clinched the spot of best senior secondary school and won Rs 10 lakh. Government High School, Nussi in Jalandhar West, secured the top spot in the high school category, and earned a cash prize of Rs 7.5 lakh. Meanwhile, Government Middle School, Tahli in Nakoder, was adjudged the best middle school, and won a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh.

School grading is based on various factors such as academic results, infrastructure, co-curricular activities, contributions from school management committees and the public, as well as student attendance. On February 26, the heads of the winning school would receive the cash prize from the Education Minister in Chandigarh.
