Lawn tennis tournament
Jalandhar: The IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) concluded its Inter-College Lawn Tennis Tournament. The event, held in the university premises, witnessed enthusiastic participation from various colleges. The overall winner of the trophy in men’s category was DAVIET Jalandhar and in the women’s category it was GNE Ludhiana. Prof Susheel Mittal, Vice-Chancellor, sent his best wishes to the winning teams and also shared the university’s vision in the context of overall development of the students. Dr SK Misra, Registrar, IKGPTU, graced the occasion as chief guest at the valedictory ceremony. He congratulated the winning teams and distributed medals to the winners and players. The final results of the men’s category were: DAVIET, Jalandhar, winner, IKGPTU, runners-up; third position went to GNE Ludhiana. In the women’s category, GNE Ludhiana became the winner and the runners-up trophy went to IKGPTU.
Five alumni honoured
Five alumni of St Soldier Law College, who had been selected for PCS (Judicial) conducted in 2023 were honoured by Group Chairman Anil Chopra and Vice Chairperson Sangeeta Chopra. The candidates are awaiting their appointments after completion of all formalities like police verification etc. The selected alumni are Himani, Simran, Shivani, Sonali and Satnam Singh. College Director Dr SC Sharma said that all these candidates had won university positions in their respective courses. All of them were also attending special coaching classes for PCS (Judicial) in the college along with their course studies. The selected candidates and their parents gave credit to the college teachers and management upon their success.
Blessings Day celebrated
To shower blessings on the outgoing students of Class 12, Blessings Day was celebrated in State Public School, Jalandhar Cantt, with fervour. The day started with a Shabad. A candle ceremony was held in which the students handed over the light of wisdom and responsibilities to their juniors to carry forward their legacy. They bestowed blessings to the students not only for Board exams but for future also. Dance, music and games entertained all. The juniors thanked the seniors for their guidance and affection. Students were also honoured with mementos under different categories like Award for Excellence in Academics, Best Nightingale Award, Nimble Feet Dancing Award, Classroom Caring Award, Best Orator and so on. Master Karanveer Singh was selected as Master SPS and Diya was selected as Miss SPS. Principal Savina Bahl wished all the best to the outgoing students.
Inter-School Shabad Gayan contest
The 10th Inter-School Shabad Gayan Competition was organised in the premises of Kamla Nehru Primary school, Hargobind Nagar, Phagwara. Teams from different schools participated in it. Paramjit Kaur Dhillon, Principal, graced the occasion as chief guest. Ravinder Singh and Kevin Singh were the judges for the competition. The participant students from different schools presented melodious Shabads. Akal Academy secured the first position, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Ji Public School secured second position, Apple Orchid secured the third position and Swami Sant Dass Public School got the consolation prize.
Martyrdom Day of Mahatma Gandhi
The students of Ivy World School paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on January 30 to mark his martyrdom day. A two-minute silence was observed in the classes and the students took a pledge that they would follow the path of truth and non-violence shown by him. In the memory of Gandhi’s sacrifice and to honour his legacy, the Ivyians were enlightened about his views and philosophies of leading a simple, peaceful and non-violent life. The Principal also paid homage to Gandhiji and highlighted his contribution in the country’s freedom struggle.
Superannuation of professor
The teaching staff of Lyallpur Khalsa College bid adieu to Prof Jaswinder Kaur who attained superannuation after a long and meritorious service of 28 years in the Department of Zoology of the college. Principal Dr Jaspal Singh appreciated the loyalty and commitment of Prof Jaswinder Kaur towards the college, and presented her souvenirs and wished her happy and healthy retired life. On the occasion, Vice-Principal Prof Jasreen Kaur read the citation presented to Prof Jaswinder Kaur. In her farewell speech, Prof Jaswinder Kaur expressed her sense of belonging with the institution and commitment to society. She gave a detailed account of her association with the department. Prof Jaswinder Kaur were honoured by all the teaching staff and Principal Dr Jaspal Singh.
National Voters’ Day
The NSS unit of DAV College organised a lecture to celebrate National Voters’ Day. Prof Kuldeep Khullar from the Department of Political Science and SWEEP in-charge, enlightened the voters about their rights, emphasising the importance of impartial voting. Faculty members, volunteers and programme officers pledged to exercise their right to vote and fulfill their responsibility towards the nation. NSS coordinator Dr Sahib Singh highlighted the significance of voting rights in a democracy and the role of youth in fostering a positive change. Programme Officer Prof Vivek Sharma expressed gratitude to all attendees and concluded the event with a wish for informed voting. Prof Sunil Oberoi, Prof Pankaj and numerous other volunteers were also present on the occasion.
