Lawyers on strike over move to set up rural courts
The District Bar Association (DBA), Hoshiarpur, struck work today against the government’s decision regarding the rural courts at Raikot, Sri Chamkaur Sahib and Dhar Kalan.
President District Bar Association, Hoshiarpur, Advocate Ranjit Kumar said the decision to establish rural courts was neither in the interest of the people, nor practical.
This decision would prove to be wrong just like the decision to run mobile courts. Recruitment of judges and judicial staff and the police for speedy disposal of cases and resolution of basic infrastructure problems were essential, otherwise problems would increase with rural courts.
He said that the District Bar Association was united with the Mukerian Bar Association on the issue of electricity and also supported the state-level call given by the Mukerian Bar Association.
He said a meeting of all Bar associations of Punjab would be held on Wednesday in which a strategy would be fixed for dealing with the issue effectively.
