The school authorities in the Lohian block of Shahkot subdivision have taken proactive measures to safeguard vital records and documents amid concerns sparked by recent flooding in parts of Sultanpur Lodhi.

Although there is currently no flood threat in the region, the memories of the devastating floods in 2019 and 2023 have prompted educational institutions to adopt a cautious approach.

Following reports of flooding in 15 villages of Sultanpur Lodhi — including school closures in Baupur Jadid — a wave of panic briefly swept through several areas in Lohian block. Residents in vulnerable, low-lying regions expressed concerns over a possible repeat of past disasters. However, the situation has since stabilised and local residents confirm that conditions are under control at present.

Despite the relative calm, school authorities across Lohian have taken no chances. Teachers from multiple institutions have ensured that all crucial documents, including student records and official registers, have been relocated to secure locations, safe from any potential water damage.

“Although there is no need to panic and the situation is fine, still, we have kept our records in a safe place. No risk this time,” said Kulwinder Singh, a teacher at Government Middle School Mundi Cholian, one of the worst-hit schools during earlier floods.

Echoing similar sentiments, Pooja, a teacher from Government Primary School Mundi Shehrian, stated, “The situation is normal right now, but we have taken all necessary precautions. Everything has been kept safe.”

In addition to Mundi Cholian and Mundi Shehrian, other institutions such as Government Primary School Mandala Channa and Government Primary School Dhakka Basti — all previously among the worst affected during earlier flood events — have also adopted a safety-first approach this year, with advanced preparations in place.

Meanwhile, local residents remain hopeful for continued calm. “There was panic a few days ago, especially in the low-lying areas, but things are much better now. We’re praying to the almighty for better days ahead,” said a village elder from Lohian.
