Jalandhar: It was a moment of great pride and celebration for Lyallpur Khalsa College, Technical Campus, as Kajal Satija, a student of BTech CSE, got selected as a Senior Software Engineer by Make My Trip, an online travel company. She got a hefty pay package of Rs 25 lakh per annum. Sukhbir Singh Chatha, Director, Academic Affairs, KCL Group, congratulated Kajal for her achievement and lauded her efforts. He gave his blessings for achieving more laurels in the times to come. Deputy Director Dr RS Deol felicitated Kajal and encouraged her to keep up her hard work and zeal. Kajal has been an industrious student of the CSE Department throughout her years of study. She has always performed exceptionally in academics. She owes her success to consistent hard work and blessings of her family, friends and the Almighty. Kajal thanked the faculty members for their able guidance which steered her towards successful placement.
Research journal on Guru Nanak
IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) is going to launch a research journal on the life, teachings, ‘Udasiaan’ and unique vocabulary of Guru Nanak. This research journal will be published twice a year, which will contain high quality research papers written by scholars on various topics related to the first Sikh Guru. Along with this, two coffee table books will also be prepared and published on ‘Udasiaan’ of Guru Nanak and its related objects/places and events. These academic topics were discussed and proposed in the first meeting of an advisory committee of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Chair on Friday at the university main campus. Eminent scholar Prof (Dr) Sarbjinder Singh presided over the meeting, in which subject expert and member of the committee Gurjot Kaur participated. Members of the advisory committee were welcomed by the Registrar of the university, Dr SK Mishra, Dean R&D Prof (Dr) Ashish Arora and others. On the occasion, it was also discussed that an international conference would also be organised every year on various topics related to Guru Nanak and after two months a seminar-cum-speech competition would also be organised. At the same time, keeping in mind the research work, books, research journals worth Rs 5 lakh would also be arranged every year. The committee also decided to organise seminars and conferences in central universities in the name of Guru Nanak’s message of universal unity.
Summer camp on yoga
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya organised a free of charge summer camp on ‘Yoga and Diet Counselling’. The camp was organised by the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Health under the DDU Kaushal Kendra. Students from all streams participated in the camp with full zeal and enthusiasm. During the classes, students were taught the basics of yoga, various techniques of yoga and different types of diet for various diseases. Every topic was explained with the help of suitable examples by the faculty members. The participants were very much appreciative of this exemplary course as they got a great platform for improving their skills in the field of yoga and nutrition. Principal Prof (Dr) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the participants for having availed a lot from this valuable programme. The Principal lauded the efforts of the Department of Nutrition for organising the summer camp.
Skill development classes
Apeejay College of Fine Arts organised free skill development classes for students of Class XII. In one of the courses titled — Blog Designing — with latest technology, experts taught the students about practical implementation of designing a blog using Word press software. The students also learnt the concepts of UI/UX design. The backend data handling for a website was the crucial part of the course in which the concepts of data and its organisations were partly covered. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra said in the era of computers and IT, there are multifarious career prospects in this field both in India and foreign countries and college has wide range of tech savvy courses to offer which can undoubtedly lead to bright future and career opportunities for students.
English Poetry Competition
A poetry competition in English was organised at International School, Adampurs, under the supervision of Principal Navdeep Vashista. The children of the nursery wing participated enthusiastically in the competition. On the occasion, kids recited poems related to their curriculum. In grade Discoverer’s (Nursery), Yuvnik Sharma bagged the first position, followed by Harnimrit Chopra (second) and Alishia (third). In grade Creator’s (LKG), Sonam Kumari got the first position, followed by Avleen Kaur (second) and Tarunjot Singh (third). In grade Creator-Plus (UKG), Jasnoor Kaur and James Heer bagged the first position, followed by Riyanveer Sandhu (second), Divansh and Farman Kaur (third). On the occasion, Director of the school Dr Simmi Tandon, while motivating the children, said all participants would be honoured with certificates.
Free Plant distribution camp held
STS World School organised a free plant distribution camp on the occasion of Van Mahotsava in the school campus and plant saplings were distributed among all Sahodaya participants and teachers accompanying them as a token of love and a gift to mother earth. Principal Prabhjot Gill along with chief guest Arshdeep presented gifts to the judges.
World Youth Skill Day observed
To mark the World Youth Skills Day, various competitions such as poster making, speech writing, PPT, computer software were organised at DIPS School, Bhogpur. The main objective of these activities was to encourage students of senior class about those arts and skills, through which they can attain good career. Through posters, the students gave a message that youth are the future of the country, if they are weak then the country can never progress. A number of people don’t have access to education and employment. To achieve this they have to face many difficulties. There a number of fields that a student can choose for a better future. Principal Gurveen Kaur said the main objective of observing the day was to enable the youth to overcome the challenges of unemployment. In today’s situation, to provide employment opportunities to the youth, it is very important to teach them skills according to their ability.
