Mall eatery owner booked for letting people drink in open
The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police carried out a special drive last night aimed at curbing liquor consumption in vehicles and public spaces around PPR Mall.
The operation, supervised by Harjinder Singh, ACP, Model Town, took place from 8pm to 11pm and resulted in the issuance of eight challans and the registration of an FIR against a restaurant owner.
The drive involved multiple police units, including the SHOs of Police Division Number 7, Division Number 6, Police Station Navi Baradari and Police Station Bhargo Camp, with the support from the ERS Zone 2 team.
A total of 125 vehicles were inspected during the operation, with officers using breath analysers to detect alcohol consumption among drivers and vehicle occupants. The initiative was part of a broader effort to maintain law and order, especially near establishments known for selling liquor.
The police issued eight challans for various violations. Three drivers were penalised for drinking and driving, while two others were found riding without helmets. Another individual was fined for having tinted windows, which is against the law, and one more was penalised for driving without seat belt. Additionally, challan was issued to the owner of a motorcycle for having a modified silencer and horn, which contributed to noise pollution in the area.
In a more serious case, an FIR was lodged against the owner of Spicy Treasure, a restaurant located at PPR Mall. The restaurant was found to have allowed open liquor consumption outside its premises, a violation that prompted swift action from SHO Division Number 7.
“The FIR serves as a warning to other outlets about the consequences of failing to enforce public safety regulations”, police officials said.
They added that this special drive was part of the their ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and address illegal activities near wine shops and public spaces, falling under the jurisdiction of the commissionerate.
