In an operation against fraudsters, the Jalandhar Rural Police arrested a man impersonating a police officer at a naka on January 27. The accused was driving a black SUV (PB-10-BS 6706) with "Thanedar" written on the rear windshield in Punjabi, creating an impression of authority.

In preliminary investigation, it has come to the fore that he had tried for a police job but could not clear it. But he used to telling people that he cracked it and made fake ID card to support his lie. He affixed fake sticker of 'thanedar' on his car and was evading toll tax. He was arrested.

SSP Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh today said the arrest was part of a special campaign targeting anti-social elements and fraudsters. The operation was carried out under the supervision of SP, Investigation, Jasroop Kaur Bath, and DSP, Shahkot, Onkar Singh Brar, with Inspector Sukhdev Singh, SHO, Mehatpur, leading the police team.

Accused Ansh Gill of Ungi village, Nakodar, was intercepted at Chote Bille T-point, Mehatpur. On questioning, he failed to provide satisfactory answers regarding the "Thanedar" sticker on his vehicle.

A fake Punjab Police ID card and a black toy pistol were also seized from him.

A case has been registered against the accused at Mehatpur under relevant sections of the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The accused has been taken into custody and further investigations are underway to uncover any additional fraudulent activities linked to him.

SSP Khakh has encouraged the public to immediately report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or district control room at 112 helpline.

The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to be police officers.
