Phagwara: The police arrested a man and recovered one inverter, two large batteries and one gas cylinder from his possession on Wednesday. The goods were stolen from government primary school, the police said. Senior ACP-2 Babandeep Singh said identified as Sunny of Sufipind village, the accused was nabbed near GNA Chowk. He said a case under Sections 457, 380, 34 and 411 of the IPC had been registered against the accused, who was sent to 14-day judicial custody. OC
Two Proclaimed offenders held
Phillaur: The police arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) wanted in cases of drug smuggling. In the first case, the Bilga police on Thursday arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) absconding for the last seven years. Investigating Officer Ashwani Kumar said the accused had been identified as Jaspal Singh, alias Pali, a resident of Sangowal village. Meanwhile, the Shahkot police arrested PO Resham Singh, alias Pinda, a resident of Punia village and wanted in a drug smuggling case, IO Som Nath said. OC
One booked for illegal mining
Phagwara: The Shahkot police on Wednesday booked an unidentified person on the charge of illegal sand mining. Junior engineer-cum-mining officer Vishal Ranna complained to the police that he was at Sallaichan flyover naka and signalled a tractor-trolly loaded with sand to stop but the accused fled leaving his vehicle behind. Investigating Officer Harbhajan Lal said a case under Section 21 of the Punjab Mining Act and Sections 379 and 411 of the IPC had been registered against unidentified persons and impounded his tractor-trolley loaded with the sand. Three arrested under NDPS Act
Phillaur: The police arrested three persons under the NDPS Act last night. In the first case, the Bilga police arrested a drug peddler, identified as Parmindar Pal of Mohalla Pucca Darwaja, and seized 20 gm of heroin from his possession, SHO Parmindar Singh said. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused. In another case, the Lohian Khas police arrested Ashok Kumar and Sukhjindar Kumar, both residents of Chak Chela village, and seized 415 intoxicant tablets from their possession.
