The Shahkot police have arrested a man with large quantities of illicit liquor during a patrol held on Wednesday. The arrested accused, belonging to Moga, has been taken into custody.
Two canisters (15,000 ml) of illicit liquor were being ferried by the accused, identified as Balkar Singh, resident of Rerwan, at Dharmkot in Moga.
DSP, Shahkot, Onkar Singh Brar said under the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign of the police, Lohian police ASI Balwinder SIngh along with a team of officials, during patrol from village Mehrajwala to village Gatta Mundi Kasu, apprehended a man on the basis of suspicion.
They recovered two plastic cans of illicit liquor. An FIR was registered against the accused under Sections 61,1 and 14 of the Excise Act at Lohian police station. Accused Balkar was arrested immediately by the police.
The DSP said continuous drive against such unscrupulous elements was being carried out by the Shahkot police. The riverside areas of Shahkot and Lohian in Nakodar have been under constant police surveillance for the production of illicit liquor in such areas.
The DSP said a simultaneous awareness drives were also being run by the police to ensure that those who had been addicted to drugs are sensitised
