The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by the Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma has arrested a 'drug smuggler' and recovered 45 kg poppy husk from him.
The Commissioner said the police nabbed a driver identified as Parkash Singh, alias Pasha, of Ambedkar Nagar, Gidderbaha, with 45 kg of poppy husk. The arrest has been made as a sequel to the case in which a police team had arrested two accused, Manjit Singh, alias Mani of Umrewal village in Mehatpur and Jugraj Singh, alias Joga, of Daulewal village in Moga.
The police had also recovered 1.025 gm heroin and 5.058 gm of opium from them. It had come to light that the kingpin of a gang involved in the drug trade was Inderjit Singh, alias Labu, of Daulewal village. The police today arrested kingpin Inderjit's driver.
The Commissioner of Police said the arrested accused had also been booked under FIR on August 14 last year under Sections 21,18, 29-61-85 of the NDPS Act. He said further investigation into the case was going on and details would be shared later.
