Phagwara: More than a dozen armed assailants attacked and wounded a Bhagatpura Phagwara resident Krishan Kumar near Dera Sheela Mahant in the city on Monday night. The victim was returning home on his scooter when the assailants stopped his scooter and attacked him. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital. The police have registered a case against Tushar, Karan and Abhi, all residents of Hadiabad, and 11 others. Personal enmity was said to be the reason. OC

Inter-state gang busted, 4 held

Phagwara: The police have busted an inter-district gang of looters and arrested its four members. Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused had been identified as Ajay, Sunny, both residents of Nurmahal, and Jaskaran and Sameer of village Gumtali near Bilga, and Kavita Rani of Jalandhar Cantt. Bhatti said the police had recovered three stolen bikes, three mobile phones and cash worth Rs 10,000 from their possession. OC

Peddler held under NDPS Act

Phagwara: The police have arrested a drug peddler on the charge of selling poppy husk. Investigating officer (IO) Manjinder Singh said that 2 kilograms and 200 grams of poppy husk were recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Parminder Singh alias Pamma a resident of Rauli village. A case had been registered against the accused and impounded a motorcycle on which the accused was travelling with the contraband. OC

Villager held for bike theft

Phagwara: The police have arrested a villager on the charge of stealing motorcycles. The accused has been identified as Mangat, alias Mani, son of Jasvir Singh, a resident of Kotla Janga village. The police had received information that the accused, a notorious thief indulging in stealing motorcycles, was sitting in front of Sianni Wal village gate to sell a stolen motorcycle. He was arrested on the spot. A case has been registered. OC

Man duped of ~22.94 lakh

Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against a person for allegedly cheating a villager of Rs 22.94 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. According to information, Prabhjot Singh told the police that Manjit Singh, a resident of Bullpur village, Gurdaspur, had allegedly cheated him in the pretext of sending him to America. After registering the case, the police have started further action. OC
