Man ends life by suicide, 5 booked

Troubled by his daughter’s in-laws, a man ended his life by jumping into a river. The Mukerian police station have registered a case against five accused in this connection.

According to information, Balwinder Kaur, wife of Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Kahnuwan, told the police that her daughter Simran Kaur got married to Lovepreet Singh, son of Baljit Singh, a resident of Guru Nanak Nagar, Dasuya, on November 5, 2023. She said after marriage, Simran Kaur’s husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur, brother-in-law Baljit Singh and their relative Balveer Singh, a resident Naya Sala, started harassing their daughter. Panchayats were also held several times to solve the issue, she said. After this, the accused threw their daughter out of the house on February 5, 2024, the complainant said, while adding that this left her husband much disturbed. According to the victim’s wife, her husband ended his life by jumping into the Beas river on February 6.

The police started an investigation into the matter after registering a case against five accused from Simran Kaur’s in-laws.
