The Kapurthala police solved a case of a Rs 4 lakh robbery reported on January 25 and, during investigation, found that the complainant in the case had faked a robbery bid. An accused in the case has been arrested.

Gaurav Toora, SSP, Kapurthala, said on January 26, an FIR was registered at Dhilwan regarding the alleged robbery of ₹4 lakh from Gurmeet Singh, alias Geeta, of Mohalla Purana Dak Khana Gali, Raiya, Police Station Beas, Amritsar.

The police arrested Santokh Singh, alias Kukku, of Lohgarh, currently residing in Raiya, Beas. During his arrest, the police recovered ₹3.85 lakh from his possession.

During further investigation and questioning of Santokh, it was revealed that the complainant Gurmeet himself staged a fake robbery and misled the police. In reality, no robbery had taken place.

Santokh is being interrogated and efforts are underway to locate and arrest his accomplice Gurmeet at the earliest, the police said.
