Man held for selling banned kite string

Phagwara police have arrested a man accused of selling banned Chinese string, known for its hazardous nature, and registered a case against him. Acting on a tip-off, the city police, led by SHO Amandeep Nahar, conducted a raid at the residence of Himanshu Gandhi of Varinder Nagar and recovered five spools of the illegal material.Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti emphasised the police’s commitment to tackling the sale of such hazardous items, stating, “Strict action will be taken against the sale of materials like Chinese string, which pose serious risks to both humans and wildlife.”

The banned Chinese string, made with a synthetic coating, is notorious for causing severe injuries due to its sharp and abrasive nature. The accused has been booked under sections 223 and 125 of the BNS, and further investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have also appealed to the public to report any illegal sale or use of such materials to help eliminate the threat posed by these dangerous items.
