Man killed in hit-and-run near Bhullarai bus stand

A man was killed near Bhullarai bus stand after a speeding vehicle struck him while he was crossing the road, the police said on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Ramkaran of Deenanagar in Ambala district (Haryana), had been staying at Bhullarai village with his brother for the past few days to graze their livestock. According to his brother Lakhwinder Singh, Ramkaran was carrying firewood and attempting to cross the road when the vehicle hit him with force, killing him on the spot. The driver fled immediately.

ASI Gurmukh Singh said a case has been registered against the unknown vehicle driver and further investigation is underway.

In another incident, two minor brothers were injured in a violent altercation in Kapurthala’s Shalimar Avenue on Sunday. The victims, 16-year-old Sohel Puri and 15-year-old Navi, were rushed to the Civil Hospital after being assaulted by a group of youths.

According to Sohel, the dispute began when he accidentally hit the foot of one of the youths while getting off his motorcycle outside a shop.

The group allegedly began abusing them and soon launched an attack. One assailant reportedly struck Sohel on the head with a hard object, while Navi was beaten up when he tried to intervene. Local residents gathered after hearing the commotion, prompting the attackers to flee. The police have begun an inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, a passenger died suddenly aboard a train near Phagwara on Saturday. GRP in-charge Sukhwinder Singh said the man was found unresponsive in coach B-1, berth number 28, between the Chaheru–Phagwara stretch. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital mortuary in Phagwara and his family later performed the last rites at Bhuan Dhamdari on Hoshiarpur Road.
