On Tuesday afternoon around 2.30 pm, he started asking for money from his wife to get drugs, and when he did not get the money, he started beating her. Kulwinder ran to her in-law's house, which was nearby. After sometime, Labh's father Sarabjit Singh and mother Surjit Kaur came to his house along with Kulwinder and tried to convince him, but he got angry and shot himself in the head with a pistol in the courtyard of the house.

Sarabjit, with help of some neighbours, took his son to the Government Hospital, Tanda, where doctors declared him dead. On receiving information, Tanda SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra reached the hospital and took the body in possession.
