A man sustained serious injuries after being struck by a moving train near Santokhpura in Phagwara on Monday evening.

Chaman Lal was reportedly sitting close to the railway tracks and smoking when the incident occurred.

According to reports, Chaman Lal’s scarf got entangled with the passing train, pulling him towards the tracks. He received injuries on one of his legs and the head. Passersby and locals rushed to help and informed the authorities.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Phagwara, where he was referred to Jalandhar.

Railway police personnel said an investigation was under way.

Sources at the hospital said the victim’s leg had to be amputated.
