Masked thief breaks into hospital in Phagwara

A masked thief broke into a private hospital in Model Town area here and escaped with Rs 5,000 in cash during the early hours of Wednesday. The incident, which took place at Chouhan Hospital, opposite the BSNL Telephone Exchange, was captured in footage of the CCTV cameras installed inside the hospital.

According to Dr Balbir Chouhan, when he arrived at the hospital on Wednesday morning, he found the shutter lock broken and the premises ransacked. Upon inspection, he discovered that Rs 5,000 kept in the counter drawer was missing. Despite presence of expensive medicines and a scooter inside hospital, the thief stole only cash.

The CCTV footage revealed that around 4.13 am, a masked youth entered the hospital and committed the theft. It remains unclear whether more than one person was involved in the crime or not. A formal complaint has been lodged with the Phagwara police in this connection. The police are currently investigating the matter.
