Jalandhar, February 10
A day after members of the district committee visited Passan Kadim village to take stock of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said remedial measures would be taken soon to alleviate the problems being faced by the villagers. The DC said the committee was yet to formally submit its report to him.
Meanwhile, the process to catch dogs began at the village. The DC said: “The committee constituted to solve the stray dog problem at the village spent a considerable time at the village on Friday and observed the ground situation. Remedial measures will be taken once the panel submits its report. As far as shifting of dogs is concerned, the process will also be undertaken as per the SOP.”
Meanwhile, farm labourers at Passan Kadim village have started sleeping in the houses of their landlords due to scare of stray dogs. Around 10 to 15 farm labourers are spending nights at the farm of former sarpanch Nishan Singh.
Nishan Singh said: “Labourers told us that they are scared of spending nights in their shanties due to stray dogs. The administration started the process of sending cages to catch dogs in the area today. The time the dogs are caught, labourers will spend nights at our house.” Farmers have spending nights at the houses of landlords in Churhpur also.
Villagers also said that some dogs were caught in cages today.
