MC office to remain open on weekends for property tax collection till July 31
The Punjab government has fixed July 31 as the last date for depositing pending property tax with a full exemption on penalty and interest under the One Time Settlement (OTS) Policy-2025. To facilitate this, the Municipal Corporation (MC) Office in Phagwara has organised special tax collection camps.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta (IAS) informed through a press release that the Property/House Tax Branch at the MC complex will remain open every day, including weekends, till the deadline to ensure residents face no inconvenience while clearing their dues. She appealed to all property owners in Phagwara to take advantage of this opportunity and contribute to the city’s development.
According to a notification issued by the department of local government, property owners who pay their original outstanding tax amount in full by July 31 will receive a complete waiver on penalty and interest. Payments made between August 1 and October 31 will be eligible for a 50 per cent waiver on penalty and interest. After October 31, full penalty and interest will apply as per prevailing laws.
Dr Gupta emphasised that the initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on taxpayers while ensuring timely recovery of municipal revenues. It offers defaulters a fair, time-bound chance to settle their dues without additional penalties.
Mayor Rampal Uppal welcomed the initiative and described it as a “thoughtful and pro-public decision” by the Aam Aadmi Party. He said it reflects the administration’s commitment to responsive and inclusive governance.
