MC Phagwara gets 'Water+' certification

The Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, has been awarded the prestigious Water+ Certification, the highest recognition under the Open Defecation Free (ODF) framework of Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. This accolade reaffirms Phagwara’s rising stature as a model city for sustainable urban development and environmental leadership.

Dr Akshita Gupta, Commissioner, MC-Phagwara, stated that the Water+ certification reflects the city’s steadfast commitment to scientific waste water treatment, promotion of biodiversity, and active citizen participation in sanitation efforts. The city has ensured 100 per cent treatment and reuse of sewage water, with zero discharge of untreated waste water into environment. Through continuous public awareness campaigns and community-led sanitation practices, Phagwara has fostered a culture of environmental responsibility at every level.

This year, the MC Phagwara’s performance saw a remarkable rise on the national stage. The city’s national rank improved from 1,854 last year to 531 this year, marking a 249.34 per cent growth in rank position. This impressive leap stands as a testament to the innovation, teamwork, and unwavering dedication of the municipal staff and the citizens of Phagwara.

Mayor Ram Pal Uppal expressed pride in the achievement, stating that the MC remains committed to delivering high-quality civic amenities and sustainable urban solutions. He added that this achievement reflects not only good governance, but also the deep-rooted civic sense and responsibility demonstrated by the people of Phagwara.

With this recognition, Phagwara joins the ranks of India’s leading cities in urban sanitation and environmental conservation, and renews its pledge to work tirelessly for a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient future for all its residents.
