MC Phagwara marks Gandhi Jayanti with tributes, employee felicitation

The Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, commemorated Gandhi Jayanti with a solemn ceremony at Town Hall Park, paying floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and celebrating the values of truth, non-violence and simplicity.

The event was led by Mayor Rampal Uppal and Municipal Corporation Phagwara Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta (IAS), who offered floral tributes at the statue of the Father of the Nation. Deputy Mayor Vipan Krishan Sood, several councillors, municipal officials, employees and local residents also participated in the tribute ceremony, reflecting a strong sense of unity and community engagement.

The gathering also marked the successful conclusion of Pandarwada, a two-week civic campaign held from September 17 to October 2, aimed at strengthening cleanliness and encouraging public participation throughout the city.

On this occasion, the Mayor and Commissioner presented appreciation letters to municipal employees for their exceptional contributions during Pandarwada. The gesture underscored the administration’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility, hard work, and active citizenship.

Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta, addressing the gathering, emphasised the continued relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles.

She noted that cleanliness and civic responsibility are essential to building a sustainable and inclusive urban future. She also reiterated the corporation’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure, fostering environmental sustainability, and encouraging civic pride through a blend of cultural celebrations and public initiatives.

Mayor Rampal Uppal praised the efforts of both municipal employees and residents, stating that their enthusiastic participation in Pandarwada had been deeply inspiring. He added that honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy also meant acknowledging the tireless contributions of those dedicated to improving Phagwara’s living conditions.

The event concluded with renewed pledges to uphold Gandhi’s ideals of service and simplicity, with the Municipal Corporation reaffirming its vision of a cleaner, greener, and more harmonious Phagwara.
