Phagwara: MC urges residents to plant, nurture at least one tree each

Municipal Commissioner Anupam Kaler has emphasised the importance of environmental conservation. Presiding over a special meeting today at the Municipal Corporation office, Kaler highlighted the responsibility of every citizen to care for trees in the light of global warming, urging each individual to plant and maintain at least one tree. The meeting included representatives from park maintenance committees and NGOs.
Stating that the real challenge lies in ensuring the upkeep of trees planted, Kaler appealed to the representatives of committees and NGOs to plant and maintain at least 200 saplings in their areas and parks. She directed the Horticulture Department to provide saplings from the Forest Department and ensure each one is geo-tagged. Following the meeting, the MC Commissioner initiated the plantation drive by planting and adopting a sapling at the Municipal Corporation complex. Joint MC Commissioner Kulpreet Singh and Superintending Engineer Rajinder Chopra followed suit, each planting and adopting a tree. Employees of the Municipal Corporation also pledged to plant and adopt a sapling.
The event was attended by park maintenance committee members and representatives of NGOs, including Manish Prabhakar, Malkit Singh Ragbotra, Pawan Kumar Kalra, Satish Jain, Krishan Kumar, Amarjeet Singh, Shakti Mahindru, Dr Seema Rajan, Sunita Prashar, Gulshan Kapoor, Bhupinder Singh, Navita Rani, Vandana Sharma, Pramod Joshi, IP Khurana, Rakesh Sood and Balbir Singh.
